Background
- I was the primary chemical structure searcher at E. I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. Inc for 12 years. I possess expertise
in the entire spectrum of chemical searching methods, databases and resources required for a thoroughly comprehensive search
on chemical substances, both generic and Markush disclosures, chemical process/preparation as well as chemical formulation
patents. I have experience in searching patents, literature, substances as well
as non-traditional data sources and can search an extremely wide scope, using obscure methods and resources as well as traditional
ones if necessary.
My
experience and expertise includes all types of searching, Domination/Freedom to Operate, Anticipation/Patentability, Validity/Infringement
as well as general Background/State of the Art searches. My typical searches during employment at this company were worldwide
in scope and very rarely were limited to US patents only. Most patentability searches were of very high complexity, such as
search queries with 4-6 pages of R-groups, so I am able to competently perform a search at any level of complexity. My experience
includes producing a highly refined, value added search report of only highly relevant references and disclosures.
Specific Skills and Services:
Expert
Markush chemical structure searcher, including all STN® structure databases - pharmaceutical, agrochemical and
general chemical, including specific compound databases such as CAS RegistrySM/ CAplusSM, Beilstein,
Derwent Drug File, Derwent World Patents Index®, CASREACT® as well as the Markush database MARPAT®.
Expert
using Derwent BCE fragmentation coding in the Derwent World Patents Index®.
Expert
in searching the INPI/Questel Merged Markush Service – file MMSTM.
Expert
at searching chemical reaction (all databases on STN® for this purpose including Derwent World Patents Index®
and CAplusSM, Synthline®, etc.) databases using both structure searching (such as Casreact®,
DJSMDS, etc.), chemical codes and other searching methods for the process and preparation of compounds.
Highly
skilled at other searching methods for non-structure searchable chemical and patent information files on STN® using
chemical nomenclature, keyword searching, patent classes, other chemical coding/indexing systems.
Highly
skilled at searching internet patent databases such as Micropatent, USPTO, JPO, CIPO, Esp@cenet and a wide variety of other
types of chemical databases on the internet which may disclose chemical substances.
Other Skills and Services:
I
have limited experience, including Anticipation/Patentability and Freedom to Operate experience searching polymers and to
a greater degree, biosequences (BLAST and other techniques). I can offer only
a general background search of very good comprehensiveness and reasonably due diligence and in these areas if needed with
the caveat that this is not my area of expertise. I intend to expand my expertise in the biosequence area in the future.
